Micro Voice Recorders
Night Vision

Next we will mention some devices only because they are out there and they are helpful in some situations.
First is the latest night vision optics. We're not going to discuss what to look for in a purchase or how they work. I do want you to know they are quite good and can be purchased for less that $200.00. There are adaptors available to use with cameras, both still and video.
The second device is the covert camera. There are many versions of this type of device and they can be made to look like any ordinary household device. There are catalogs available for many of these devices, you have only to scan the ad pages in the back of many popular magazines on sale right now as well as the many websites that are readily available for searching. Last but not least, the last piece of surveillance gear that can be handy is about as low tech as you can get. It is a fairly large peice of material that is black in color. It is used as a large curtain to cover your vehicle windows when you are sitting in a vehicle where you might be observed. This curtain makes the vehicle  look empty. You can look out of your vehicle from behind the curtain, which is simply tacked in place with safety pins or duct tape, and you are fairly invisible. When searching for your material be sure to test it in the store before you purchase it. You will need to be able to see through it and it should be fairly light weight so it's easy to hang.
So, with a duffel bag or a briefcase to put your do it yourself spy kit in, you are now ready to hit the street and conduct surveillance, right? Probably not just yet, but when you finish the last section which describes some actual techniques you are at least better prepared. Even with your equipment and having read the techniques portion contained in this website, I strongly recommend that you practice the techniques prior to actually trying to look at someone.
Actually  you can go to the mall and practice following someone on foot to get an idea of how to do some techniques. You can tail a vehicle loosely as they go where ever they are going. If you see these practice targets notice you, simply break off your practice surveillance, you don't want to cause someone to become nervous or possibly burn you when your not even following your target. It's only a practice run!
So, on we go to discover the tried and true ways of the surveillance operative. Oops!! I almost forgot, did I mention to bring a roll of good old duct tape? I'll tell you why later.
