The Do It Yourself Detective
CASE # 5     Innocent Victim

Another Federal case and another witness locate. This case was very important because the fellow in trouble was very young and very clearly innocent. The witness could absolutely clear this youngster if she could be found.
Problem number one was that I didn't even have a name. What I did have was a physical description, but that was all.  I also had a location where the alleged crime occurred so I had something.  Not much but I did have a place to start.
The alleged crime occurred at an apartment complex, so that is where I started. I went there and began asking people if they remembered a girl who looked like our witness. After many inquires, I located someone who remembered a girl that matched the description and gave me a first name.
Continuing my investigation, I asked many more people if they knew a girl named so and so, who matched the description and I finally found someone who knew her full name. Someone else thought they knew where her family lived. So now I am hot on the trail.
Back to my office I entered her name on People Finder on the Internet and there she was. Full name, phone number and address.  Everything worked like it should and the case ended very successfully for all involved.

Section VII
Case Histories
The examples of search techniques demonstrated in the five real life cases were successfully concluded using techniques described in this website. I have even described the attitude you need to be successful. There is no magic, no closely held secrets that only those in the business know how to perform.
You need a professional attitude and appearance and most of all you need to keep going when you think you can not. If your search
is important enough to begin it should be important enough to finish.
Now that you are pumped up and excited about being able to do your own missing person locate, let me bring you back down to ground level.  There are cases that really are very difficult to solve and occasionally there will be one that is unsolvable. The next section deals with those very difficult cases and what course of action you should follow when you reach that point.
