Types of Surveillance

Surveillance by its definition "to watch someone" does not adequately describe modern day surveillance. With many Hi tech devices, some of which are quite within the reach of amateurs, unless we understand something of the various techniques we do not know what counter measures to employ.
This section will give an overview of a variety of surveillance techniques both, low and Hi tech, that you might find as an average citizen. We will not devote time, other than to mention them, to detail such things as lasers for picking up conversations from vibrating windows, satellites that can deliver real time images of you sunbathing in your backyard or cameras attached to what we all think are those weather balloons suspended above us at the beach.

Basic Counter Measures
Once again, this website is not to be used as a definitive work on counter surveillance. It is to be a general guide for someone who may feel the need to know a little more about the subject without joining the CIA.  It should be kept in mind also that not every technique and counter measure is covered here as there are new surveillance methods developed on a regular basis and there are as many variations as there are people who employ them.  I like to categorize surveillance into three types: stationary, mobile and electronic.
