Stay Alert!

Stay alert, observant, stop frequently and having become aware you are being watched avoid going anywhere that might give them information that helps their case.
Don't let them see where you bank, don't meet with the person you were going to. Stop, make a phone call at a pay phone or use your cell phone, look around, make eye contact with your surveillant, seek a park bench or catch a cab.
If there is a public bus service, you can get on a bus, go one stop and get off and walk again to see if you have lost your tail. You may want to do this more than once.
Another very good technique is to stop in front of a storefront and use the reflection in the glass windows to see what is going on behind you. Use the same technique as you enter a mall to see who is behind you when you walk

through the door and then see who does what as you stop and examine the directory or make a call on your cell phone or if available you can use a pay phone.
After looking at the front windows quickly enter the store and ask about the possibility of a back exit. Entering a mall at one entrance and exiting through another and grabbing a cab or perhaps a bus and moving away from there is an excellent way to "shake a tail."
Crowds make surveillance very difficult and will cause the operative to move closer to avoid losing his target. Movie theaters are excellent places to drop a tail. Buy a ticket, go inside, buy popcorn, take a seat. The surveillant has two choices: buy a ticket and follow you in or wait outside and try to guess which exit you will use and when. My guess is they will follow you inside. This is great. Let the movie get well under way and leave via one of the fire exits. Here you have two choices: quickly leave the area or wait for your surveillant and absolutely let him know he's burned.
Restaurants can work the same way. Go inside, be seated, order and if they follow you inside as well, when they begin to order or when their food is being served you can quickly exit the area. Both of these techniques are very good for either, identifying and or burning and dumping your surveillant.
If you stop to use a pay phone leave no notes that might be picked up and if you use a notepad at a Hotel pay phone take your notes as well as the next 3 or 4 sheets of the note paper so the operative cannot read the impressions of your writing.
If you do use a pay phone somewhere be aware of the operative who might try to move in to an adjacent phone and over hear your conversation.
Some of these techniques may sound like fun and games, but let me remind you that these people are very hard at work trying to spy on you and you must in turn work just as hard at countering them.
